The saints go Marching in - Four Horsemen for Football players

MONDAY, July 18 (HealthDay News) -- Retired pro football players may face a higher risk of mild cognitive impairment, a potential precursor of Alzheimer's disease, a new study suggests.

"It appears there may be a very high rate of cognitive impairment in these retired football players, compared to the general population in that age range," said lead researcher Christopher Randolph, a neuropsychologist at Loyola Medical University Medical Center in Chicago.

Randolph was scheduled to present the study findings Monday at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference 2011, in Paris.

A second study to be presented at the conference found military veterans who had suffered a traumatic brain injury faced more than twice the risk of developing dementia.

"Traumatic head injury is the best known environmental risk for late-life dementia," said Dr. Sam Gandy, a professor of neurology and psychiatry and associate director of the Mount Sinai Alzheimer's Disease Research Center in New York City, who was not involved with either study.

"Football, soccer, hockey and exposures to IEDs [improvised explosive devices] in Iraq and Afghanistan are all contributing to the incidence of late-life dementia," he added.

The Lion Roareth at the Red Place

My Latest Respite is the Redbury, a chic hotel created by award-winning music video and television director Matthew Rolston and financed by Sam Nazarian, a Los Angeles luminary whose brother once offered me a job as a venture capitalist working on his fund. They funded Omnitracs, a satellite company that played a key role in the emergence of the San Diego firm Qualcomm. I mean, they bought it and got the cool technology a few years back.

Here's the thing. I got invited to the Microsoft Party there and had a great time. It was about Windows and This, The Lion.

There are Lions Everywhere at the Redbury and at Cleo, the restaurant inside. It also has a lot about Cleopatra. The reason I am telling you this is that Cognitive Labs is going places. What if I told you that Microsoft was buying it?

Well they almost did before.

I mean before Google did before. Now it gets complex explaining this but a lot is going on in this blog besides the Brain. I mean the brain of Brain.com is still here. I mean the man who put together that cool website that people at Apple liked and also the ad directors who put together the Hulu launch commercial in 2009 - for the Superbowl commercial with Alec Baldwin and the brain. That was an award-winning commercial and it lampooned, in a way, brain.com, the site I created 100% myself.

Now when you go to brain.com you see nothing but a little auction slate with a Chicago firm that is in a lot of trouble. That's all I'll say for now.

So now the Lion is roaring, so to speak.

So tomorrow I am meeting with Bill at Shutters.
Oops, maybe I'm not. But I have seen him there, ask J--n.

O The Apples Fall Not!

Hey, Here's a Cool New Story of Midnight in Paris, I Mean the Big Apple!

The Story (AP) was on Mashable Here:

Artist Kyle McDonald installed a program on the computers in two New York Apple Store locations that automatically takes a photo every minute. Now his personal computers have been confiscated by the U.S. secret service.

McDonald's project was to capture people's expressions as they stare at computers, a subject he had first explored in a recording he made of his own computer time over two days using the same program.

"I thought maybe we could see ourselves doing this we would think more about our computers and how we’re using them," he says.

On three days in June, McDonald's program documented people staring at computers in Apple stores. Since the stores wiped their computers every night, he had to go back in and reinstall the program each day he took photos. He uploaded a collection of the photos to a Tumblr blog, and last Sunday he set up "an exhibition" at the Apple stores. During the unauthorized event at the Apple stores on West 14th Street and in Soho, when people looked at an Apple store machine, they saw a picture of themselves. Then they saw photos of other people staring at computers. Amazingly, nobody made a fuss.

"We have this expression on our face [when we use computers] that basically says that we’re not interacting with anybody, we’re interacting with the machine," the 25-year-old Brooklyn resident says. "Even if there are a lot of people in the room at the Apple store, you’re not interacting with them. If something weird happens, you don’t say 'hey, did you see that?'"

Over the course of the project, McDonald rigged roughly 100 Apple store computers to call his servers every minute. That's a lot of network traffic, and he learned that Apple monitors traffic in its stores when he received a photo of a computer technician at Apple's Cupertino headquarters. The technician had traced the traffic to the site McDonald used to upload the program to Apple Store computers -- and installed it himself.

McDonald figured that Apple had decided the program wasn't a big deal. That was until four Secret Service men in suits woke him up on Thursday morning with a search warrant for computer fraud. They confiscated two computers, an iPod and two flash drives, and told McDonald that Apple would contact him separately.

McDonald, who has a master's degree in electronic arts, admits the project might make some people uncomfortable. Before he began, he got permission from Apple's security guards to take photos in the store, then asked customers if he could take their photos. Had they all said no, he says, he wouldn't have proceeded. He also refrained from putting the code for the photo-taking program online, as he does with most of his projects, because he recognized that the technology behind his art project could be used for less benign purposes. If someone sees themselves in his collection and wants to be removed, he will remove them.

The larger question is whether he violated any laws. McDonald doesn't believe he has.
"My main thought is that I'd rather spend my time and money making new work rather than dealing with a computer fraud investigation," he says.

He'll also need to purchase a new computer, which he wasn't planning on. "Hopefully they let me into the Apple Store," he says Mashable has reached out to Apple for comment and will update this article with any new information.

I Am of the Stars

The Five-Pointed Stars of Forever

As Some of You Know, I Have Discussed My Intention to Buyout MySpace. This Will Take Some Time. In the Meantime, since I and another Guy Are Creators of the Hit-Winning Business Plan Which Took Flight, I Will Entertain Various Projects In Addition to My Core Activies. What I Mean By My Former Comment is that The Growth Strategy of MySpace Early Days Was Ours. Because it Was Our Company. Some of it was Elaborated on this Site. Or I'll Just Start a New Social Network.

On The Star Travel/Remote Acceleration Project, Which is Taking Flight, There Are a Number of Encouraging Signs. The Radius of Pi And One of Its Derivations Are Astounding, They Are of Ars Mathematica of the Future. What I Mean is, It is Going Swimmingly. It is of Hyperspace and The Challenges that Follow to Get there. Why I Am Bringing This Up is That We Are Now in the Age of Capricorn, which is a Code for Change in the Space Program.

By the Way, I will only Speak on the Record About Said Star Project to Science Correspondents.

The Battle of Good And Evil

My Story Will Get Complex for the following reasons.

Armageddon-in-the-Stars-of-the-Night! It is a Dream and of the Substrate of Film.

This is a vision of forever that commences here for several reasons. It is of 2012 and 2010. It is an elegaic vision that flows forever from the pen of one hidden. So you could say it is poetry or you could say it is didactic of the Old Ones.

It is Entertainment-related to be sure. The complete vision will be delivered only over the course of a number of years that will be outlined variously as time passes but mostly via the writings of a hidden author. This one is hidden in the manner of Shakespeare, that is, the posthumous author who may be engaged in various pursuits while writing the script.

So come forth tie that binds and be of this place so depicted. It is of this World, the One Lost-in-Time, and the One-to-Be and that is for sure.

What I am Saying is This! Unite the World Hidden One of the Brain! You Were of Brain.com and its Overseeing One and of MySpace Hidden Founding! O You Moved the Cargoes of the World at ups.com and Others Before that! Now Write My Books and Make Them Golden and of Allegory-Most-Fine! It is the Will of One Hidden that this is So!

Remember, movies are dreams and dreams are movies, so are long books! All exercising the brain!

This is the Day of Flight

The Flight to Quality Proceeds, and What This Means is the Following. That Man Will One Day Go to the Stars. Now There Are Many Clues That Have Been Advanced by Neuroscientists Relating to Cognitive Enhancement. It Turns Out that Many of These Concepts Are True, After All. One Way of Assessing This is to See Who is Quoting the Published Reports and Also See This, The Number of Links and Also Results Under Search, Which Would Seem to Be a Reliable Quantitative Indicator of Quantity of Interest At Least.

The Flight to Quality Has Occurred Here As We Are Upgrading Everything to Totally New Levels and Nevermind The Raven Who Pecked Mercilessly at us for Upwards of Two Years.

The Raven

By Edgar Allan Poe

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-
Only this, and nothing more."

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow;- vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow- sorrow for the lost Lenore-
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore-
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me- filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating,
"'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door-
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;-
This it is, and nothing more."

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
"Sir," said I, "or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you"- here I opened wide the door;-
Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, "Lenore!"
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!"-
Merely this, and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
"Surely," said I, "surely that is something at my window lattice:
Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore-
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;-
'Tis the wind and nothing more."

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed
he;But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door-
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door-
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore.
"Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore-
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning- little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blest with seeing bird above his chamber door-
Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
With such name as "Nevermore."

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered- not a feather then he fluttered-
Till I scarcely more than muttered, "other friends have flown before-
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before."
Then the bird said, "Nevermore."

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
"Doubtless," said I, "what it utters is its only stock and store,
Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore-
Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore
Of 'Never- nevermore'."

But the Raven still beguiling all my fancy into smiling,
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird, and bust and door;
Then upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore-
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking "Nevermore."

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom's core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamplight gloated o'er,
But whose velvet violet lining with the lamplight gloating o'er,
She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then methought the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor.
"Wretch," I cried, "thy God hath lent thee- by these angels he hath sent thee
Respite- respite and nepenthe, from thy memories of Lenore!
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil!- prophet still, if bird or devil!-
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted-
On this home by horror haunted- tell me truly, I implore-
Is there- is there balm in Gilead?- tell me- tell me, I implore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil- prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us- by that God we both adore-
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore-
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore."
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Be that word our sign in parting, bird or fiend," I shrieked, upstarting-
"Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken!- quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamplight o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted- nevermore!

The Amorian is Here - History Lives at Cognitive Labs

We once had tests for each U.S. president but I was told to take them down by our buyer during due diligence. This went on for months and resulted in nothing but change. So now History will live again at Cognitive Labs, which was my original vision but this will take some time to complete. For example, consider this Byzantine Emperor called Michael. He was the one of pure vision!

In my dream he restored Constantinople along with his son Theophilus, who succeeded him. They had a magnificent Palace which was the envy of the World. Why, Emissaries from China and India would bow down before the Golden Lions that roared and the Twittering Birds of the Jeweled Trees!

They were steam-powered like the Aeliopile of Alexandria of Hero's Inclination. Yeats poem "Sailing to Byzantium" is of this Vision.
