Microhoo/YahooSoft or 'Fedups'
>
I haven't checked what Arrington says about Microhoo/Yahoosoft but it's a little like the old joke Fedex is merging with UPS and now there's one company called "FedUps."
I see a couple of effects: check it out
(1) the yahoo mail franchise which may be the biggest asset now could become a platform for getting people to upgrade to Vista
(2) many tech types will switch to gmail. there's a huge number of users that have a gmail account but not for their primary use
(3) hotmail and yahoo mail integration creates an email behemoth, which may be unwieldy like the giant in 'jack and the beanstalk'
(4) a gap may be created for an enterprising dark horse (or two) to emerge

Thought Police May Use MRI to Analyze You
>

One of the open issues linked to neuroscience-related 'helper' applications is the potential loss of privacy and individual thought. While greater understanding can be achieved, what are the ramifications of having individuals or government authorities becoming omniscient?
Those with incorrect thought may be detected and helped in the sense of THX-1138, with therapeutics. Could it happen? With so many people on earth competing for what could become scarcer resources, authorities may feel compelled to save us from ourselves, in the name of social harmony.

Fighting Disease from a Game Console at Stanford
>
A team at Stanford is harnessing the computational power of thousands of PC's and Sony PS3 computers to perform calculations related to protein folding, which may shed light on the origin of diseases including cancer and Alzheimer's. While the project has been ongoing since 2000, the addition of PS3's has kickstarted the adoption rate.
When users are online, the extra processing power can be used for the good of humanity. It is reminiscent of the Seti@home project.

brain.com - test mecca
>
Roughly 1,000 people per day are signing up on brain.com - now a cognitivelabs.com property - and this is giving a shot in the arm to our registration efforts - now closing in on the 2 million mark - (just under 100,000 away)
This is basically people just going to the site and registering...it is now ranked 4th on yahoo and 5th on google when you enter the word "brain". You can help us reach #1 by placing those quality, organic links.
brain.com is a little easier to remember than cognitivelabs.com, though the latter has built a quality brand in its own right.
