Celebrity Archaeologist Zahi Hawass to Make Another Announcement
>

Dr. Zahi Hawass, who makes a major announcement seemingly every week, beats the PR drum for ancient Egypt and his celebrity status once again.

This time, he promises the "most important discovery since King Tutankhamun!" This same phrase was also used in the unveiling of KV5 about ten years ago, the Tomb of the sons of Ramses including perhaps Amen-Hr-Khapesh-f, the son of Ramses and perhaps Pharaoh's First Born son referred to in Exodus.

That discovery was announced by Dr. Kent Weeks (my former Egyptology professor at Berkeley) who left to take a similar position at Am. University of Cairo - closer to the action. You'll probably have seen Dr. Weeks on the Discovery Channel, along with Zahi Hawass, who might be considered "editor" of all things ancient Egypt.

The discovery is said to be the mummy of King Hatshepsut. (Egyptologists call Hatshepsut 'Queen' though the word used in Egyptian is that which is translated as King) so it is probably more accurate to refer to King Hatshepsut. In Luxor, Hatshepsut's mortuary temple is visible right across the river from most of the accomodations where people usually stay. (Deir el-Bahri)
